Reserve, NM, June 27, 2017- The Reserve Ranger District has 3 fires on National Forest System lands in Catron County, NM.

Teacher, Gravel and Seven fires have transitioned to Type 4 organization. Fire activity is minimal with interior smoke. Teacher fire remains at 3,555 acres, Gravel at 2,880 acres and Seven Fire at 1,189 acres. There has been some moisture on the fires, but we do not anticipate full suppression/containment until monsoon season. Thus far, these fires are serving the objective of maintaining and restoring fire's natural role in the ecosystem.

Smoke can hurt your eyes, irritate your respiratory system, and intensify chronic heart and lung problems. Your eyes are your best tools to determine if it’s safe to be outside. If visibility is over 5 miles, the air quality is generally good. If you are having health effects from smoke exposure then take extra care to stay inside or get to an area with better air quality.
