On Friday, July 14, a few minutes after 7 p.m., Grand County Sheriff's Department deputies were dispatched to 52 Yucca Valley Drive in Arenas Valley in reference to a burglary. Upon arriving at the residence, a deputy met a Santa Clara police officer, according to a police document, who was at the residence attempting to locate the owner of a yellow 1971 GMC pickup the officer had found the night before up by the tanks in Santa Clara with its motor running.

Shortly after finding the abandoned vehicle, according to the document, the officer saw a black Nissan sedan in that same area. The officer reported there were four adults in the Nissan, three males and one female, and believed they may have been up to criminal behavior.

The officer and deputies determined the back door of the residence was open and cleared the house, finding no one there, the document said.

The homeowner was called and he informed deputies that he was in Carlsbad and may have left his residence unlocked.

On Sunday, July 16, deputies made contact with the victim at his residence who stated, according to the document, that, in addition to the GMC pickup; camera equipment, a television, and a weedeater, valued at approximately $8,265 were missing.

The GCSD has listed the four adults in the black Nissan sedan as suspects.
