Lordsburg, NM/Hidalgo County

This morning August 28, 2017 around 12:55 a.m. New Mexico State Police Officers were notified of a single vehicle crash on I-10 east bound at mile post 14. Officers learned upon arrival on scene that a 2017 Dodge Van swerved to miss a rabbit, causing the driver to loose control of the vehicle and overturn in the median.

The driver, Yen-Ting Wu (25) and passenger Yen-Pai Chu (46) both of Taiwan, sustained non-life threatening injuries and were transported to Mimbres Medical Center in Deming, NM.

Mr. Chia-Han Chu (26) of Taiwan, a passenger was not utilizing his seat belt restraint at the time of the crash, he was ejected during the roll-over, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Office of the Medical Investigator.

Hung-Lung Lin (33) of Taiwan was also a passenger and not utilizing a seat belt at the time of the crash, was subsequently ejected suffered major injuries and was transported to Banner Medical Center in Tucson, AZ via helicopter.

Kaiman Liu (28) of Taiwan was the front passenger and was properly restrained at the time of the crash, and was transported to University Medical Center in El Paso, TX.

The Taiwanese Consulate was notified of the crash and assisted with the notifications to family.

This crash is still under investigation with no further information available at this time.
