Hurley chooses new solid waste collection service

The town of Hurley held a special meeting November 22, 2023. Attendance to the meeting included Mayor Ed Stevens, councilors Nanette Day, Keana Huerta, and Reynaldo Maynes.
This meeting had been called just to award the solid waste collection service. The town had received two proposals. One of them came from Southwest Disposal and the other from Garcia Waste. The committee recommended Southwest Disposal for a three-year contract. The council approved the recommendation.
Problems with the Santa Clara flea market and brewery

The Village of Santa Clara held its regular meeting November 11, 2023. Mayor Richard Bauch called the meeting to order. Mayor Pro Tem Albert Esparza, and Trustees Olga Amador and Arnold Lopez attended. Peter Erickson did not attend.
Mayor's report
Bauch congratulated mayor elect Arnold Lopez. He also congratulated Olga Amador for her reelection and Ralf Trujillo for his election. He thanked all those who ran and support the village. "I'm glad for the Tamal Fiesta and having more room for the event this year."

US 180 4-lane Project, Timeline Update

Letting Date Now January 2024, Phase 1 Construction to Start in Summer 2024
SILVER CITY – The project timeline for the US 180 4-lane project planning, designing and construction has been modified to accommodate a new letting date. The original letting date for phase one was Oct. 2023, it is now January 2024. Construction for the first phase is scheduled to start in the Summer of 2024. This 4-lane project will be completed in three separate phases, pending funding availability.

Grant County Commission Chair Chris Ponce at the meeting beginning at 9 a.m. on Nov. 14, 2023, noted that the special meeting would take place first to address the recent election canvass of votes. "We will hold this one first, then adjourn and go directly into the work session."
After approval of the agenda, Ponce announced public input.
Snell to have wellness rooms

The Cobre Consolidated School Board held a meeting on November 13, 2023. Board members in attendance included, , Gilbert Guadiana, Serena Murillo, David Terrazas (online) and Elizabeth Dean (online). Acting superintendent Michael Koury also attended online. Gabriella Begay did not attend.
Kiwanis had two students of the month awards. They had not been able to attend, and Guadiana presented them.
Melanie Baca a senior at Cobre High School maintains a 3.8 GPA. She always challenges herself and has become very confident. She can be found taking photos at the track many times. She also excels in volleyball.
Angelita Aveles attends Snell Middle School and has been a great role model to the other students and an excellent student.
