If you're married, you know how the argument goes.

"Where do you want to eat?" "Well I don't care, where do you want to go?" "No, I asked you first." "Really, I don't care, you pick a place." "But what kind of food do you want?" "It doesn't matter. Let's get whatever you want to have for lunch."

But on Mondays, the argument gets even worse. Why? Because the first restaurant you show up at is closed because it is Monday. Then the second restaurant you get to is closed because it is Monday. By this time, you are so frustrated you don't even want to check out a third or fourth restaurant. Then around 7:00 p.m., you start getting hungry because you just realized you didn't eat lunch. I hate Mondays.

If you work Monday through Friday, then another reason to feel bad about Monday is knowing that you must play catch-up. You know what I mean. There are things that happened on the weekend that are now waiting for you to take care of on Monday morning. Of course, you already had things planned for Monday morning, so something is getting pushed to Monday afternoon or maybe even Tuesday. So now you have to re-prioritize everything you are doing Monday to make room for whatever happened on Saturday or Sunday... and of course spending time to find out which restaurants were not open on Mondays just bogs down the process even more.

Okay, so Mondays get a bad reputation for things that really aren't their fault. Days don't make things happen, they just sit there on a calendar waiting for you to do stuff on Monday. I guess I shouldn't be critical of Mondays. I mean, really, it is Saturday and Sunday that make the problem... and of course my wife is also to blame for not being able to decide on a restaurant.

So I have come up with a solution. On Mondays, I will simply take a ham sandwich to work with me. I'll go in early to get a jump on those unpredictable things that came up on Saturday and Sunday. And if I have to I'll work late Monday night so I won't have to push stuff I need to do on Monday... to Tuesday. Yep, that's a plan.

I just hope we don't start seeing restaurants close on Tuesdays. I would be in so much trouble.
