A week and half or so ago someone wrote to the Silver City Daily Press complaining that city officials were doing things to keep new businesses from coming to Silver City. Since moving here in August of 2013, I haven't seen any evidence of this situation. In fact if you could ask the developers of the new Denny's Restaurant, I bet they would be happy to tell you how easy it was to work with city officials to bring this new restaurant to our fair community. I spoke with the folks at Domino's and they are pleased with how the process has gone to get their new restaurant up and running in Silver City. Please understand, if there has been anyone working against businesses like Denny's or Domino's, it sure as heck wasn't city officials. It would be the "do-gooders" that seem to know what the general public wants better than anyone else.

Take for example the two phone calls I received today complaining about the Domino's Pizza sign. "It's much taller than the Taco Bell Sign was." "That Domino's Pizza sign is about two times larger than the old Taco Bell." So here's the simple truth, you can believe it if you want to. However I feel certain some people will believe I am lying… but then I really don't care what those people think. Anyway here's the real lowdown on the sign… it isn't any taller and it isn't any bigger. All they did was refurbish the old sign with new paint and the new logo. Since they did not actually change the design of the sign, the replacement sign was grandfathered in under the old town signage rules. By the way, the inside of the new restaurant is really nice. It's cool how they built a raised area for little kids to see over the counter how they make the pizzas. Just like Denny's, we'll be announcing the ribbon cutting and grand opening very soon.

Another place with a new home is Advanced Veterinary Care. The husband and wife doctor team of Drs. Bradbury are now moved into their new office and seeing lots of four-legged patients. Advanced Veterinary Care is now located at the corner of Little Walnut and Highway 180 West in Silver City. The actual address is 212 Highway 180 West. Their phone number is 575-388-1503. We'll be making an announcement about their ribbon cutting and Grand Opening very soon.

So here's another pile of hogwash that we get calls and emails about… NO, the Kneeling Nun has not fallen off the face of the Earth. I received an email today from a lady outside of Albuquerque who had been told the Kneeling Nun had fallen. C'mon guys, she's still there. That is the actual Kneeling Nun sitting on the side of the mountain. It's not a fiberglass replica, it's not a blow up replica… it's the actual rock.

So with all this rubbish, let me finish this article with one truthful rumor. Yes, the Silver City Grant County Chamber of Commerce is probably the most transient organization in Grant County. Every time you turn around, those guys have moved their office. I mean really, the Chamber of Commerce has moved about as many times as my Uncle Kelton did when he would eat a sack full of fresh prunes. But hopefully, this will be the last move for at least the next 3-4 years. So where is the Chamber of Commerce office located? If you call the Murray Ryan Visitor Center, we've been told they don't know. If you search the internet, you will be able to find about five different locations listed under a Google search. Heck, even if you ask the UPS driver, he's clueless. So let me help you. The Silver City Grant County Chamber of Commerce is located in the Grant County Veterans Memorial Business & Conference Center. The address is 3031 Highway 180 East in Silver City. We are located between the Ace Hardware store and the Corre Caminos office. No bull… that is where we are located. So we invite you drop by for a visit and a tour.
