The February meeting of the Grant County Commissioners has moved its scheduled meeting from the Grant County Administration Building to the Grant County Veterans Memorial Business & Conference Center.  The conference center is located at 3031 Highway 180 East in Silver City. The meeting is still scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday – February 21 (tomorrow).

If you plan to attend, please be courteous and mindful that Ace Hardware needs to have parking spaces for their customers.  Please do not park directly in front of Ace Hardware.

The Tour of the Gila is gearing up for another exciting year of bike races. State Senator Gabe Ramos and Lt. Governor Howie Morales are asking for you help. They are going to introduce an item for the Appropriations Bill to give some funding to help the Tour of the Gila event. Please call Senator Ramos and Lt. Gov. Morales to tell them Thank You for sponsoring the funding bill.

The Grant County Business and Conference Center supports many uses. We have had weddings and receptions, graduation parties, baby showers, birthday parties, community fundraisers, training sessions, workshops, job fairs, festivals, gem & minerals shows, gun shows and more.  And we provide the service with just 2-1/2 employees. If you book a room, the conference center staff is here during your in case there is an issue. There is approximately 25,000 feet of indoor venues to choose from. If you want an outdoor event, there is a patio or you can rent our parking lot.

We can help with small meetings and workshops or large multiple day events. Some of those larger events will include the Historical Society of New Mexico Annual Conference, The Episcopal Arch Diocese of New Mexico holding the State Convention here, a statewide Outdoor Economics Conference, we’re helping plan for a 2020 District Rotary Conference that includes Rotary Clubs throughout New Mexico and west Texas…and we are getting ready for the Battle of the Gila Karate Tournament this Saturday with participants coming from as far away as Phoenix, El Paso and Albuquerque. Prices to rent space and use the equipment in the conference center are some of the most inexpensive in the State of New Mexico. Like many other businesses, we sometimes have conflicting schedules, but we will make a good effort to find a day that will work for you or we will make suggestions of other spaces in Grant County that might be available.

Have you ever heard the story about the guy who fell from a really tall building? People swear that as he fell past each floor, they could here the man exclaim “So far, so good”. It’s a good attitude to have, but at some point, you hit bottom. Businesses need to have a plan to succeed. I heard on the news today that close to 50% of all small businesses fail within the first year. So, if you need some assistance, need new ideas, you’re looking for some marketing tips or you simply have questions and want answers, call our Chamber of Commerce office at (575) 538-3785.  And until the County meeting on Thursday…“So far, so good!”
