This past weekend, my wife and I attended the Grant County Strong Celebration at Bataan Park in Santa Clara. There literally were a couple of hundred other Grant County citizens at the park as well. I saw Democrats. I saw Independents. I saw Republicans. But most of all, what I saw were just good old-fashioned citizens of Grant County having a great time. Many people in Grant County have come together on a couple of occasions recently to support the fight against detrimental mining bills and 2nd Amendment Rights legislation in our state. It’s great to see so many concerned people…no matter what political party you are affiliated with…get together for a common cause and a common celebration. I hope we see another event like this in the Fall.

The Tour of the Gila Bike Race is just around the corner. Currently there is an urgent plea for volunteer vehicle drivers during the upcoming Tour of the Gila Bike Race. The Tour of the Gila Race will pay for the gasoline for your vehicle, and you get a cool t-shirt and invitation to attend the event ending party. If you are interested and can volunteer or need more information, please contact Michelle Geels at 575-590-0203, or email silvergeels@gmail.com.

The Chamber of Commerce will assist with a ribbon cutting for the temporary offices of HMS Mining District Health Clinic in Santa Clara. The ribbon cutting ceremony will be held on Monday – April 22 at 10 am. The temporary clinic will actually open on Wednesday – May 1 at 107 Northeast Street (next to the Santa Clara Senior Citizens Center) in Santa Clara, New Mexico. A permanent office structure will be erected in the near future on the opposite side of the Santa Clara Senior Citizens Center.

On May 2, the Chamber of Commerce will hold its May Chamber Lunch meeting. The guest speaker is Jason Lazich - Director of Spaceline Infrastructure and Ground Services from Virgin Galactic. Of course, Virgin Galactic is the company that has been selling rides to the rim of outer space. The trips will leave from the Spaceport near Las Cruces and T or C, New Mexico. Seating for this lunch is limited to the first 56 registrations. The lunch will be held in the Sunset Room of the WNMU Student Cafeteria. The cost is $15.00 per person. There will be no registrations available at the door. You can pay and register in advance here or stop by the Chamber of Commerce office in the Grant County Conference Center at 3031 Highway 180 East in Silver City.
