I'll tell you exactly what God wants. He wants us to accept the wonderful gift of His Son, Jesus Christ, as our Lord and Savior. Everything else He wants from us - faith and trust and obedience -- will derive from that one decision.
You may have seen signs emblazoned with the Bible verse John 3:16 at various public events. John 3:16 has been called the Bible in a nutshell and it goes, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life."
You see, God can't allow sin into heaven, and we all have sinned. So, heaven is out of bounds for us. Only death remains to look forward to, because that is what we've earned. But God, in His magnificent love, created a way for us to have our sin erased and meet His standard for heaven. God sent His Son, Jesus, to die in our place. And Jesus did that on a Roman cross 2,000 years ago. All we have to do is reach out and take that marvelous gift God holds out to us. And we do that when we believe in Jesus.
Giving us everything we need to live a fulfilled life, God just wants us to love Him back. Is that so awful?
