We haven't done a 'random thoughts and observations' column for a while. With everything going on around us, maybe it's time. What do I mean 'maybe'? It's time. Let's do this.
Isn't allowing non-citizens to vote in our elections 'foreign interference'?
The new liberal social media campaign involves people Tweeting at their elected officials 'Defund the NRA'. It's fairly popular among the ignorant, slack jawed mouth breathers. Too bad they don't realize that, unlike Planned Parenthood, the NRA doesn't get any of its money from the government. The NRA is funded from membership dues and private donations. This proves once again that the followers of Pelosi, Schumer, Warren, et al are just that, followers. Not thinkers. That's why they hate anyone who looks like them but doesn't think like them.
Speaking of hating those who don't think like them, there is a sign between Silver City & Deming that supports President Trump. That sign was vandalized shortly after being erected. Now it has been cut down. Not blown over, someone actually cut the support poles. Tolerance at its finest.
Some time ago, the City of Seattle decriminalized heroin. The city set up clinics where addicts could shoot up under the supervision of a nurse, just in case they overdosed. Clean needles are also supplied to help stem the transmission of various diseases. One side effect is the influx of addicts to Seattle who are now straining the city's resources, thus the new tax on businesses. Another side effect is that prior to all youth athletic activities, such as soccer or football, the fields have to be swept with metal detectors or magnets to pick up all the discarded needles heroin users are leaving in public parks. Several kids have already been pricked by falling on or stepping on said needles. But, that's a small price to pay for being tolerant.
I don't fear death as much as I fear that after I'm dead, I'll vote Democrat.
President Trump rolled back more regulations yesterday by signing a bill that eliminates many of the onerous requirements put in place by Dodd-Frank. The overriding result of Dodd-Frank was to give large banks a huge advantage over local or regional banks by requiring more reporting to federal overlords. Community banks and credit unions couldn't afford to hire the hundreds of people it takes to comply with the provisions of Dodd-Frank. Now community banks can get back into the game and service the consumer. This gives the consumer more choices and allows community banks to tailor their services & products to their market. Helping out the average person?! What a novel concept.
Did anyone else find it odd that Chuck Schumer seemed to be praising President Trump for pulling out of the North Korean summit? Schumer and his party have consistently berated President Trump for not being conciliatory, aka submissive, in his foreign relations dealing. Now Schumer is saying we have to be tough to get a deal that will result in real reforms. He would know having been around to watch the last 4 presidents fail in their deals with North Korea. But I think Schumer really is glad that Trump has pulled out of the summit. The summit may still take place, and if it does, Trump is very likely to get real change effected in North Korea. That will be further proof to the American voter that everything the political establishment has been doing for the last 40 years has been an abject failure. Schumer can't have another Trump success.
Guess what happens after you are offended? Nothing. Now be an adult and get over it.

Most of you are familiar with Uber or Lyft. How many of you know about Hop, Skip & Drive. It's a new ride service targeted towards people with kids.
Many of us remember having to drop off and pick up our kids at or after school, take them to soccer or basketball practice; take another kid to the dentist or piano lessons, all while working or whatever. Now HK&D can do all that for you. They hire only professional child care workers with at least 5 years of service and that are currently licensed. They conduct a stringent background check and continually monitor performance. The company is based in Los Angeles and is having great success with plans to expand nationwide. Wouldn't that have been nice when our kids were young? See what happens when you allow free market capitalism to work? The government didn't create this business; the government didn't require the owners to conduct background checks or hire only licensed child care workers. The owners knew what the consumer wanted and they delivered. I think there's a lesson in there somewhere; one that will be completely ignored by the left.
Of all my body parts, my eyes are probably in the best shape. I must do at least a thousand eye rolls every day.
