One of the undeniable truths of life is that we want to believe people, no matter what they are telling us; no matter that we might know they are lying to our faces. This is especially true of people that we perceive to be in positions of authority or to have more knowledge about a topic than we might have. It's because we are inherently good people and want to believe that everyone around us is inherently good.

It's this belief that has given us career politicians, despite the fact that most of us do not trust members of Congress. We have had some direct access to our elected officials and we trust them because they said things we liked and they seemed sincere when they said those things. Heck, even their explanations for not keeping their promises sound plausible and sincere, so we give them the benefit of the doubt and send them back to 'do our bidding'.

The same can be said for the media personalities that ignore the truth to push an agenda. A few years ago CNN brass commissioned two studies, one internal and one by an external group, to determine if their reporting was biased one way or the other. Both studies said it was overwhelmingly favoring Democrat politicians and anti-Republican. They didn't really do anything with that knowledge and have seen their ratings slip to unbelievably low numbers.

For some reason that I don't fully understand, we are watching the citizens of this country wake up and begin to realize just how much excrement our politicians and media have been feeding us. We've always kind of known they weren't telling the truth, but we wanted to believe them because we couldn't fathom that they would lie to us as much as they do.

We are watching the career politicians on both sides of the aisle squirm as the truth comes to light. The pols and the media continue to lie to us but more people are paying attention and realize they are lying. It's gotten to the point that you are starting to see the NY Times, Washington Post, and some pundits on CNN & MSNBC starting to leak little bits of the truth about what is going on with the Mueller report. They still try to sugar coat it and point the finger at Trump, but there are some truth nuggets appearing in their reports.

I had an acquaintance ask me a question this week about why our country is so divided and why bigotry, hatred, and divisiveness are increasing. I don't think we are as divided as some think. That's not to say that there isn't a portion of our society that has their hatred exposed, but when I say we aren't divided, it's the majority of our population that isn't.

Look around you over the next few days and think back over the last few months. We all have friends that do not share our political views or are from a different demographic group than we are. Have they changed? Are they treating you differently? Do you still share common interests that bring you together? Probably so and we get along just fine.

Politicians and media outlets want to spread the hatred and the resulting fear because it not only keeps them in power, but increases their power over us. Make no mistake, these people are lying to us about immigration, Russian meddling, the economy, hatred, bigotry, all of it. But if we stop and look ourselves, we can find the truth. it's only then that we can progress towards real solutions to the real problems. Like taking power away from Washington D.C. and Santa Fe. And then living our lives the way we want to live them.
