That's right, I said it. The 2nd Amendment does not apply to semi-automatic weapons. In fact it doesn't apply to any specific type of firearm. Any type of arms are essentially irrelevant when we discuss the 2nd Amendment. No, I have not been smoking the ganja and gone over to the dark side.

The 2nd Amendment is concerned with limiting the power of the government when it comes to a right we already possess. Our right to possess and bear arms predates the Constitution, the federal government, in fact it predates any code or law that man has ever created. The 2nd Amendment and every amendment for that matter, tells the government that they cannot infringe upon those rights in any way shape or form unless we specifically grant the government that right.

It is not a subtle point to be taken lightly given the talk from Cory Booker and many others supporting increased gun control. Those groups believe the government grants us the right to bear arms, assemble peacefully, practice our religion, and so on. The government does not grant us those rights, God did. Or nature if you don't believe in God.

Since the government does not grant us those rights, the government cannot take them away or limit them without the specific, direct consent of the people. The people have not amended the Constitution to grant the government the ability to infringe upon those rights. So grab your semi-automatic weapon, bolt action rifle, handgun, or .50 caliber machine gun if you like. It's your right.
