Dayer has been an integral part of the public library team since May 2011, when he was first hired as adult services librarian. He was promoted to the position of assistant director/public services manager in February of 2012 and has been working in that capacity ever since. Dayer moved to Silver City from Arkansas, where he had worked in libraries for over 15 years. For much of that time he held supervisory roles, including more than three years as a branch manager and public services manager in a library system in North Little Rock.

Dayer has a Master of Arts Degree in Public History from the University of Arkansas--Little Rock, with an emphasis on archival/special collections management. He earned his Masters in Library Science from the University of North Texas in 2008. Dayer is an avid birder who is active in the local ornithological community. He enjoys hiking and wildlife photography.

As public services manager at the Silver City Public Library Dayer has been responsible for supervising several library staff members, student workers, and volunteers. "Ken has worked hard behind the scenes to keep the library running smoothly," said Lillian Galloway, programming and outreach librarian. "Former director Eileen Sullivan helped build an effective library team, and together we have accomplished much. We've been able to innovate and offer more valuable services to support the community. I'm excited to continue this work with Ken as our new director."
