When someone hears the words Girl Scouts they immediately think of those famous Girl Scout Cookies. How, Where, When can I buy them? Girls will be out now taking orders and selling at local business entrances around town from January 13th until March 11th. Cookies this year are Thanks-A-Lots, Lemonades, Shortbread, Thin mints, Peanut Butter Patties, Caramel deLITES, Peanut Butter Sandwich all selling for only $4.00 a box. We also have a gluten free cookie called Trios that sells for $5.00 a box.
Selling those famous Girl Scout Cookies is more than just a cookie sale, it's an educational program. Everything girls do in Girl Scouting is designed to help them grow into leaders of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. Girls develop five basic skills that will help them, not only now, but for the rest of their lives. By participating in the Cookie Sale Program, you will help girls learn goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills, and business ethics. These 5 skills girls learn through the Girl Scout Cookie Program are an important ingredient in the Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE.) At the $4.00 a box they offer more than just a mid-winter pick-me-up. All the proceeds from cookies, which have zero trans-fat per serving, stay local and benefit local Girl Scouts. Cost of the Cookies is $1.01, Girl Scout Leadership Experience $2.25, Troop Proceeds $.60, Girl Recognitions $.12, and Service Unit $.02 is the breakdown of that $4.00 a box.
For many years, Girl Scouts across the country have used Girl Scout Cookies to show their appreciation for men and women in uniform. For various reasons, some customers do not want to buy cookies for themselves, or they only have a limited need. With the Gift of Caring Program they have a chance to give to others while supporting Girls Scouting at the same time. Girl Scouts of the Desert Southwest, in partnership with Fort Bliss and Holloman Air Force Base, sends donated Girl Scout Cookies overseas to deployed soldiers. The Gift of caring Service Project is a wonderful way to show our soldiers we are thinking of them. After all, Girl Scout Cookies are not only tasty, but a great American tradition!
Girl Scout Cookie sales have been around since 1917, when a troop in Muskogee, Oklahoma, baked cookies for a service project. This was five years after Juliette Gordon Low started Girl Scouting in the United States.
