The team at Gila Foot & Ankle Clinic is welcoming new patients who want healthier, happier feet and ankles.

"Many people have problems with their feet and just live with the pain," says Dr. Iwaasa. "Having difficulty moving can make other medical conditions worse, such as heart disease, diabetes, and high blood pressure. Aches or pain are often accepted as a normal part of life - but it's not normal to have chronic or continuous pain. My philosophy is that every patient is an athlete and it is my job is to maximize their ability to ambulate for overall health benefits. If someone is experiencing feet or ankle pain on a regular basis, they should see a podiatrist before it gets worse."

Dr. Iwaasa comes to Silver City from Bismarck, North Dakota, where he was Department Chair of Podiatry. He will be leading Gila Foot & Ankle Clinic, part of GRMC's growing Specialty Clinics. Dr. Iwaasa is board-qualified foot and ankle surgeon and is skilled in treating all aspects of Podiatry, including foot and ankle injuries, fractures, sports injuries, arthritic issues, fungal issues and diabetic foot care. He is a member of both the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ACFAS) and American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA).  He employs a wide variety of surgical and non-surgical treatments to get his patients up and moving.

Dr. Iwaasa believes the best outcome are accomplished when physicians and patients work together. He has a reputation of listening carefully to patients' needs and concerns and taking the time to educate patients on all available treatment options. Each patient's treatment plan is uniquely personalized, and treatment only begins once a patient or patient's parents feel 100% confident.

Dr. Iwaasa’s joining our team is integral to achieving our mission of providing exceptional, patient-centered care. In addition to his expertise in complex cases, preventative care will be his focus. At Gila Regional, we embrace standard recommendations to have an annual exam for all foot and ankle care, including treatment for diabetes, arthritis, tendon or joint care," said Taffy Arias, CEO of GRMC.
