The Grant County Art Guild is shaking things up. In the 50th year since its founding, the Guild is making big changes. After showing its artwork for decades at the historic Hearst Church up Highway 15 in Pinos Altos, the Guild is opening a new showplace, aptly named the Grant County Art Guild Gallery, on the main drag in historic downtown Silver City. The new space is at the corner of Bullard and Market in the former Hester House building. The lovely purple building formerly held a classy and popular gift and candy store that, sadly, closed after being in business for 50 years.

As one 50 year old entity moves into space recently left by another 50 year old entity, it should be noted that the Guild isn’t trying to replace Hester House. Theirs would be impossible shoes to fill. However, the Guild hopes to add a vibrant and exciting venue to downtown as it celebrates and represents the fine art and fine crafts of over 20 local talented artists.

Not only is the Gallery move a dramatic change for the Guild, but other huge changes are happening. At its Pinos Altos location, the Gallery was open only on weekends and holidays and only for half of the year as it was deemed too cold to be open in Winter.  However, at its new location, the Gallery will be open 7 days per week, year round, except typical holidays.

Hours will be Monday through Saturday – 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., and Sunday – 12:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m.

Pop in for our opening this Saturday, November 17; meet some lovely local artists and craftspeople, view their original handcrafted paintings, photography, prints, greeting cards, ceramics, fiber arts, jewelry, home décor, and more. Join us as well for refreshments from 3:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.

To add a bittersweet note, the Guild would like to express its deep appreciation to Dink Tatsch who has been our generous benefactor for many, many years at the Hearst Church building. While the Guild is looking forward to new opportunities in a new location, it will also be missing the nostalgia of the historic church building, the pine-scented mountains and village of Pinos Altos, and the kindness of Mr. Tatsch.
