On Monday, June 12 at 5:30, HMS CEO Dr. Dan Otero, DBA, will be presenting on rural health, and screening the popular PBS documentary, The Providers. Come join your neighbors in the sharing of delicious food and relevant information about rural health in our community and the state. All Mimbres Valley and Grant County residents are welcome. Contact the Senior Center at 575-536-9990 or email us at info@mvhal.org

On Thursday June 15, GRMC will present a Falls Prevention class from 12 to 2 for the entire valley community. You do not need to be a senior. According to an article by Chris Debolt that is scheduled to appear in the June issue of the Mimbres Messenger, falls are the No.1 cause of unintentional injury deaths in older adults, are responsible for more than 95% of hip fractures, and are the leading cause of traumatic brain injuries. Gila Regional Medical Center’s (GRMC) Roberta Berry and Rene Medina will show us how to avoid some of the risk factors!”

And on Wednesday June 21, from 11:30AM to 2PM, Grant County Commissioner Eloy Medina will hold his second quarterly community meeting. Also scheduled to be in attendance will be Grant County staff from the Sheriff’s department, the Code Enforcement and Roads department, and the manager of Native Air. This meeting will be a follow to the meeting held in March.

If you plan to attend and would like to enjoy one of the center’s congregate meals, just call Sr. Center Manager Sylvia (575-536-9990) the day before to order.

MVHAL’s mission is to improve the health, well-being, and quality of life for the people of the Mimbres Region (defined as the communities that lie along and around NM State Hwy 61 and 35) by supporting local programs that promote healthy food for all, community bonding, and improved access to health care—in particular for our elderly and very young.
