This coming weekend June 23 and 24, 2023 Theater Grottesco will perform at the El Sol Theater. The Virus Theater will present the performance “Consider This.”
The show presents the prehistory of American theater, through Greek tragedy to Commedia dell’Arte, clown, buffoon, masks and more. The Grottesco artists create their own plays. They use a combination of styles using a broad range of historical and modern styles. They use imaginary movement and stillness to capture the audience. In a promotional description of the performance, they describe the performance as closer to dance, music and the fine arts than it is to conventional theater.
Theater Grottesco was founded in 1983 in Paris, France. The performances are visual and full of surprises. They have created 18 full length plays and 50 shorter ones. They have received 15 professional theater awards and many well known national grants. They have performed nationally for 15 years in 8 countries and 30 states.
