POSITION TITLE: DETENTION CENTER OFFICER

REPORTS TO: DETENTION ADMINISTRATOR
CLASSIFICATION: REGULAR * FULL TIME * UNION REPRESENTED
SALARY RANGE: Min. $26,201 Mid. $32,752 Max. $39,902

Detention Officers are responsible for overseeing individuals who have been arrested and are awaiting trial or who have been convicted of a crime and sentenced to serve time. Detention Officers enforce the regulations governing the operation of the County Detention Center in order to maintain a safe and secure facility. In order to ensure a safe environment officers shall monitor and supervise individuals in custody. Officers maintain security and inmate accountability to prevent disturbances, assaults, and escapes. 

Minimum Qualifications:
• High School Diploma or G.E.D.
• Must beat least 21 years of age
• Must pass a Defensive Tactics course within one year of hire. Must be able to understand
and apply the appropriate use of force as well as, learn and use restraint techniques.
• Must successfully pass a drug and alcohol test, background investigation and complete a physical exam.
• Must have no felony convictions or misdemeanors involving moral turpitude.
• Must possess a valid New Mexico driver’s license.
• Must have no DWI convictions within the past three (3) years.
• Must be able to communicate in English both verbally and in writing.
• Must be able to pass CPR and First Aid.
• Must be able to handle stress and respond appropriately to stressful situations.

Preferred Qualifications
• Ability to communicate in Spanish is a plus
