SALARY RANGE:       Min. $26,201 Mid. $32,752 Max.$39,902

Detention Officers are responsible for overseeing individuals who have been arrested and are awaiting trial or who have been convicted of a crime and sentenced to serve time. Detention Officers enforce the regulations governing the operation of the County Detention Center in order to maintain a safe and secure facility. In order to ensure a safe environment officers shall monitor and supervise individuals in custody. Officers maintain security and inmate accountability to prevent disturbances, assaults, and escapes.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Must be at least 21 years of age
Must pass a Defensive Tactics course within one year of hire. Must be able to understand and apply the appropriate use of force as well as, learn and use restraint techniques.
Must successfully pass a drug and alcohol test, background investigation and complete a physical exam.
Must have no felony convictions or misdemeanors involving moral turpitude.
Must possess a valid New Mexico driver’s license.
Must have no DWI convictions within the past three (3) years.
Must be able to communicate in English both verbally and in writing.
Must be able to pass CPR and First Aid.
Must be able to handle stress and respond appropriately to stressful situations.

Preferred Qualifications

· Ability to communicate in Spanish is a plus
