ALBUQUERQUE – Democrat candidate Michelle Lujan Grisham unmasked her motives for her bid for Governor, and it's not to better the future of New Mexicans. Lujan Grisham told the Washington, D.C.-based Politico she wants to be governor for one very specific reason: controlling the redistricting process, which would allow her to consolidate political power but wouldn't do much for New Mexicans who want to find a job and make sure their kids receive a high-quality education.

"For Democrats in particular, the choice between another term in the House minority or the chance to lead their home states can be an easy one. ‘It's a good partnership to have folks who have federal experience, have relationships here but can be the governor of their states so they don't execute some of these federal changes in a way that harms their citizens,' said Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham (D-N.M.), who announced in December that she would run for governor in 2018. ‘And you would be in charge of redistricting.'" (Politico, 8/7/17)

"If Michelle Lujan Grisham is running for governor to accomplish anything other than improving the lives of New Mexico families, she shouldn't be running at all," said Ryan Cangiolosi, Chairman of the Republican Party of New Mexico. "New Mexicans want a governor who will fight for them every day, but it seems that Lujan Grisham has only one interest, and sadly, that's her own political power."
