Albuquerque N.M. – In response to recent calls for increased funding for the Bernalillo County District Attorney's office, Rep. Antonio "Moe" Maestas (D-Albuquerque), Chair of the Interim Legislative Criminal Justice Reform Subcommittee, released the following statement.

"We get the criminal justice system we pay for. After seven years of starving the criminal justice system, I'm glad to hear the Governor is realizing we must increase funding for the Bernalillo County DA's Office. Crimes on the books are meaningless unless we devote the funding needed to successfully prosecute these cases. The Governor's repeated vetoes of commonsense revenue increases are not reasonable in 2017 and have starved the system designed to keep crime under control. We must invest in keeping our communities safe."
