At tonight's Albuquerque City Council meeting, liberal councilors Pat Davis and Klarissa Pena will attempt to move forward with an item that would effectively reject existing federal law and turn Albuquerque into a sanctuary city. Davis, who is running for Congress is putting the city's safety at risk as he attempts to establish himself as the most left-wing candidate in the race for the Democratic nomination for New Mexico's first Congressional District.

"Albuquerque's diversity is as rich and widespread as any city in the nation and our communities are stronger because of people who come here in search of opportunity, security, and a better life for their families," said RPNM Chairman Ryan Cangiolosi. "However, the radical proposal to turn Albuquerque into a sanctuary city is a plain attempt to shield criminals from the law. At a time when city leaders are fighting one of the worst crime rates in history, these radical attempts by our most left-wing politicians to undermine law enforcement and protect criminals are unthinkable."

The resolution states in part, "the city shall refuse access to all city-operated, non-public areas of city property (including but not limited to the prisoner transport center) by federal immigration agents."

The Department of Justice has warned local governments in the past that refusing to comply with federal immigration law could lead to a loss of federal grant funding.

The meeting will take place in city hall chambers at 5:00 p.m.
