ALBUQUERQUE—Steve Pearce, candidate for Governor, announced today his plans to bring auto manufacturing and assembly jobs to New Mexico. Following the announcement of the new U.S.-Mexico trade deal, which increases requirements for North American made car content, Pearce, a former businessman and job creator, announced that as Governor he will bring together all resources of state government, the business community, and local leaders to create high-paying auto manufacturing and assembly jobs in New Mexico.

"New Mexico has the space, the low cost land, an excellent rail system, a large potential workforce, and a highly advantageous location to bring American and foreign auto manufacturers to our state. As a former businessman and job creator I know we can do this. As Governor, I will bring together state investment dollars, state agencies, and private sector resources to encourage automakers to make parts and assemble their cars in New Mexico. Today's U.S.-Mexico trade deal, which increases U.S. and North American made car content requirements, makes our state a highly favorable location for carmakers and we must take advantage of this unique opportunity to create jobs and diversify our economy," said Steve Pearce.

Steve Pearce: Bringing Auto Manufacturing Jobs to New Mexico

✔ As Governor, Steve Pearce will capitalize on the new trade agreement between U.S. and Mexico to bring auto manufacturers to New Mexico
✔ New requirement for auto content made in North America for cars sold in the U.S. has increased from 62.5 percent to 75 percent
✔ Deal requires 40 to 45 percent of content to be made by workers making at least $16 per hour
✔ Mexico has become a significant manufacturer of auto parts and final assembly
✔ New Mexico is poised to capitalize with extensive advantages in rail, space, low cost land, large potential workforce, and highly favorable location to be the ideal spot for increased auto production
✔ As Governor, Steve Pearce will call for greater State Investment Council funding for in-state businesses - this is a perfect example of how New Mexico can do that
✔ Southern Dona Ana and Luna County, among other locations, could greatly benefit from this plan
✔ As part of his commitment to diversify the state's economy, Steve Pearce will work with the State Investment Council, business community, local officials, and state agencies to bring all state and private resources together to create high paying auto manufacturing jobs in New Mexico
