red dot the place rsAn abundant array of local art awaits visitors to Silver City Galleries during the 2017 Red Dot ArtFest.
“The Place” is a great place for local art and great show opening receptions!
The Silver City Art Association's Red Hot-Red Dot ArtFest kicks off this weekend with a week of exciting events for fun and – "Just for the Art of It" happenings! The Independent Artists Exhibit is already hanging at the visitor center and will be available for viewing daily through October 10. Stop by the visitor center first thing, check out the exhibit and pick up brochures and maps for the ArtFest. While you are there, you can also sign up for a chance to win a $75 gift certificate that can be used at SCAA member galleries! Red Dots will help you find your way!

Plein aire painters are invited to enter the plein aire painting competition and take your paints and brushes out and about Silver City. The outdoor painting opportunities are endless, with Silver City's historic architecture, colorful buildings and abundant flora and fauna. Friday, October 6, is the date to get your canvas stamped at the visitor center; your finished paintings are to be turned in to the visitor center by Sunday for exhibition. Awards will be given at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 8.

Saturday, October 7, is the date for the annual Red Dot Art Walk. All the downtown galleries will be open by 11 a.m. at the latest. There are many special events planned, including art openings and festive receptions. It is a great time to enjoy a time with artists, music, food and fun.

The Second Annual Red Hot Red Dot Juried Art Couture Fashion Show is a very special event that will take place from 3:30 till 6:30 p.m., October 8, at the beautiful Seedboat Gallery courtyard. Limited tickets are available for this private affair. Please contact rebecca@visitsilvercity.org for your ticket to this unique signature event.

Sunday, October 8, galleries will be open from 10 a.m. till 3:30 p.m. and on Monday, October 9, from 10 a.m. till 2 p.m., as well as extended hours for some. It is a great time to browse and buy !

The second big weekend of ArtFest is all about the studios! A reception for the participating studio artists will be held at the visitor center on Friday, October 13, from 4 till 6 p.m. Everyone is invited and you can pick up your studio maps at the event! The Silver City area is an abundant feast of artist's studios. This is an opportunity to explore this amazing corner of New Mexico and get a look at the working environments of some of the most creative artists in the Southwest. Studios will be open from 9 a.m. till 5 p.m., October 14-15.
