monsoon puppets rsThe Monsoon Puppets set against the historic and colorful Silver City downtown add a fun atmosphere to the Dia de los Muertos parades.There are exciting plans for the 2017 Silver City Dia de los Muertos! This is a collaborative event of the Silver City Art Association, the Green Chamber, Mimbres Region Arts Council, Silver City Museum and the Arts and Cultural District.

Join in the preparation by making one of a kind Monsoon Puppets between now and the annual community event. The adult monsoon puppet workshop takes place Wednesday nights between 6 and 8 p.m. in the upstairs area at Leyba and Ingalls Art Supply on Bullard Street. There are also workshops for children to create their own Monsoon Puppets and masks on Saturday afternoons at 2 p.m.. These puppets will be used in the Dia de los Muertos parade that begins at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday October 29th. In addition to the puppets , non motorized entries that speak to the occasion are invited to join in the parade !

The activities for the Silver City Dia de los Muertos take place from Sunday October 29 through Thursday, November 2nd. Starting at 12:30 on Sunday, October 29, in downtown Silver City, the commemorative celebration will feature street activities for all ages throughout the afternoon. There will be food and craft booths, art in many forms , a festive parade and traditional music. The Mariachi La Plata will wrap up the day with a performance at 5 p.m. Everyone is invited to participate or just catch the beauty and spirit of the day by being a spectator!
