The Silver City Fantasy Festival announces "A Chair-ity Event," to be held on Saturday, February 24, in A-Space Gallery, 110 West 7th St., Silver City, New Mexico 88061. The goal of this chair-themed event is to raise funds for Silver City's inaugural multi-themed cosplay festival in downtown Silver City later this year. Local artists are invited to submit chair and furniture themed artwork in any medium to be sold at the event. Half of all sales go to participating artists and the remaining proceeds benefit The Silver City Fantasy Festival.

Tickets for a benefit gourmet Soup Supper at 5pm are $5.00 at the event or for pre-purchase at A-Space, Finn's Gallery, Tranquil Buzz Cafe, Binary Circuits, The Place and Yada Yada Yarn. Vegetarian, vegan and carnivore soups and bread will be served. Silver City Fantasy Festival wishes to recognize their fiscal agent, LGBTQ Grant County, a 501c3 organization. All donations to Silver City Fantasy Festival are through LGBTQ Grant County and are tax deductible.

The Silver City Fantasy Festival is the creation of local artist Bex Sasich of Finn's Gallery, who says: "helping out at Finn's Gallery I realized the need for another festival in downtown Silver City. I sensed a lot of support in the community and we want to do something fun that would be of interest to additional demographics like students, young adults and the youth."

Festival co-organizer Jason Burke (director of It Takes a Village thrift store and mission) hopes the part Earth Day, part cosplay and part art-festival will benefit the downtown area as well as the greater Silver City area: "The arts are being diminished in schools and downtown is a huge arts resource. The focus is often on tourism and the local community, particularly the youth, is underserved."

The Silver City Fantasy Festival is looking for partners and volunteers to assist in coordinating events such as a parade, a scavenger hunt, food court and other elements key to the festival.
