denise friedrich rsDenise FreidrickThe Grant County Art Guild announced the selection of sculptor Denise Friedrick as judge for the 5th Annual Southwest Birds Show. Her metal sculpture, Tree of Life, was recently installed at the Silva Creek Botanical Garden on Virginia Street.

Denise states, "I have always had a deep appreciation for the natural world. Nothing gives me greater pleasure than being outside; whether gardening or birding, sunny or raining, I never tire of it. My degree in biology honed my penchant for observation. I love the intimacy of the experience. Art, for me, is an opportunity to share and enlighten a curious mind; to question what is and consider what could be. My recently completed sculpture, Tree of Life, located at Silva Creek Botanical Garden, combined these elements and I hope gives an observer a moment of reflection and consideration."

Birds and bird related art is the subject of the show. "Birds are the wildlife we see and interact with most in our daily lives." said Jackie Blurton, Grant County Art Guild Board Member and show chair. "The works in the show are inspired by our experience of them in our life and imagination and our desire to relate that experience to others." All Grant County artists are invited to enter and may contact Jackie Blurton, at 575-534-9400 for more information.

The 5th Annual Southwest Birds Show will open with a reception on March 1, 2018 at Bear Mountain Lodge located at 60 Bear Mountain Ranch Road, Silver City, NM 88061. Refreshments will be served and everyone is invited to enjoy live music, view the artwork and meet the artists. The show will be open every day from March 1 through 31 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
