Silver City Set to Celebrate Territorial Charter Day: Mark your calendars on February 17 for a day of Wild West Fun.

Silver City is the only community still operating under their original charter, which predates New Mexican statehood. To celebrate the anniversary of the signing of the Silver City Territorial Charter in February 1878, you are invited to join in Territorial Charter Day!

The Silver City Museum will host the re-enactment of the charter signing at 2:00 pm in the Museum Annex at 304 W. Broadway. Current and local city officials, including Mayor Ken Ladner, will be dressed in period costume for the event. They will be playing the parts of the mayor, governor, and state representatives from that time. Guitarist Danny Cordova will perform traditional songs of New Mexico. Check the museum website for updates regarding other activities being planned Visitors are invited to dress in period costume for the hour-long program. A $5 donation is suggested.

The Silver City Museum creates opportunities for residents and visitors to explore, understand, and celebrate the rich and diverse cultural heritage of southwestern New Mexico by collecting, preserving, researching, and interpreting the region's unique history.
