The Grant County Art Guild announces the opening of the 5th Annual Southwest Birds Show. The subject is birds and bird-related art. Southwest New Mexico has over 362 species of birds that reside or migrate here. They are the artistic inspiration for the show which opens on March 1, 2018 at Bear Mountain Lodge in Silver City.

The opening reception will be held at Bear Mountain Lodge on Thursday, March 1 from 4 to 6 p.m. The public is invited to come and enjoy the art, music and meeting the artists. Refreshments will be served and flamenco guitar music will be played by Alireza Arasteh, Professor of Mathematics at WNMU. Bear Mountain Lodge will handle art sales for those wishing to purchase any of the pieces.

This year the show is open to all Grant County artists. It will be juried in three categories including photography. The 2-dimensional art category includes painting, pastels, drawing and collage. The 3-dimensional art category includes pottery, sculpture, fabric art and stained glass. Awards include the Patsy Teiken/Best of Show Award and first, second and third place ribbons in each category. The People's Choice Award gives the public the opportunity to vote for their favorite work. There will be a ballot box available and votes may be cast through March 15. Votes will be tallied and the winner announce in mid-March.
