Summertime and Glenwood is busy

June kicks off the summer season in the Glenwood area and there’s something for everyone at upcoming programs and events.
Kelly Hemmer gives directions for a project at the Summer Reading Program on July 13, 2016. Photo by Cheryl Thornburg“Libraries Rock,” the Summer Reading program will meet every Wednesday in June and July (June 6 - July 25) from 1-3:30 p.m. at Glenwood Community Library.
There is no set age, but the kids are typically from infant to 13. The majority of kids are between 3 and 12. There are separate programs for pre-school and older kids.
Every child will receive a book and bag. Snacks are provided.
The program includes fun games, crafts, and prizes. There will be a drawing on the last day for Grand Prizes -- at least one for each age group. Kids earn entries for this through participation in the program throughout the summer. There is a sign-up sheet at the frot desk in the library at 14 Menges Lane in downtown Glenwood. The Reading program is organized by Kelly Hemmer.
Every Saturday
The Glenwood Street Market, featuring arts and crafts, and food, is growing. New vendors are adding even more variety to the selections. Mogollon is back in business after a year-long road closure due to a major construction project. The museum, the Old Kelly Store which features all sorts of hand-crafted items and art and the popular eatery, the Purple Onion, opened their doors on May 19. Check out this unique ghost town on weekends all summer long.

June 8 is Movie Night at Glenwood Community Library. The June film is “The Last Movie Star” featuring comedy legends Burt Reynolds and Chevy Chase in a hilarious and heartwarming journey following the career of an actor who realizes that his glory days are behind him. It’s a story about faded fame, but also a universal story about growing old.
Showtime is 7 p.m. at the library, 14 Menges Lane, Glenwood, New Mexico 88039.
Cosmic Campground Weekend is set for June 8, 9 and 10. Bring a friend, red filtered flashlight, shade, lawn chair, and telescope and binoculars if you have them. Make new friends and enjoy the wonders of the night sky. For more information, go to cosmiccampground.org. The campground is located on Highway 180 about eight miles north of Alma, NM.
June is also time for the annual Bucky’s Bash. This year it is set for June 16 at 6 p.m. at Glenwood Community Park. Dinner is served at 6 p.m. with dancing at 8 p.m.This year the Bash will benefit the Arizona and New Mexico Coalition of Counties.
Another Glenwood tradition, the Frisco Cowbelles 36th Annual BBQ - Western Art Auction - Dance is set for Saturday June 30. It is always held the Saturday closest to the 4th of July at Glenwood Park. This will be the 36th annual event with a barbecue at 6 p.m., art auction at 7 p.m. and dance at 8 p.m. Music will be provided by Bucky Allred and Friends. County or state political candidates are welcome to come and talk to people.
Coming Attractions
Glenwood's 4th of July Celebration has a reputation for being fun and fabulous. The annual Doo Dah Parade is like non-other, with residents donning costumes, riding horses or in decorated vehicles of all sorts. It all starts at 6 p.m. on Highway 180 in downtown Glenwood.
