The Kiwanis Club of Silver City will be holding its 56th Annual July 4th Pancake Breakfast and BBQ Lunch on the Fourth of July from 7:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, July 4th under the pavillion at Gough Park during the Chamber of Commerce/Town of Silver City July 4th parade and celebration. Chartered in August of 1946, the Kiwanis Club of Silver City has focused on implementing and sponsoring youth service leadership programs that benefit the entire community. The Kiwanis "Terrific Kid" program, which helps elementary school students develop self esteem, leadership skills, and respect for others, is facilitated in nine area elementary schools and is responsible for recognizing over 1,000 students a year. Kiwanis also sponsors student led community service clubs in local schools that include: K-Kids at G.W. Stout Elementary; Builder's Club at La Plata and Snell Middle Schools; Key Club at Silver, Cliff and Cobre High Schools; Circle K at WNMU; and Aktion Club for adults with developmental disabilities. All proceeds from the July 4th event will go towards continuing these valuable leadership programs that enrich the community.
