SILVER CITY: Silver City Museum announces pottery techniques by Master artist Oralia Lopez from Mata Ortiz, Chihuahua for ClayFest to take place Saturday, July 21 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Dr. John Bezy will give a presentation about the prehistoric roots of modern Mata Ortiz at 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
 
Master artist Oralia Lόpez from Mata Ortiz, Chihuahua will be at the Silver City Museum Annex located at 302 Broadway on Saturday, July 21, 2018, 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. She will be demonstrating the intricate technique used to paint pottery including elegant forms, precision designs and beautiful colors. Oralia will have a wonderful selection of work by many other fine Mata Ortiz artists for purchase at reasonable prices starting at $20.
 
At 11:00 a.m., and 1:00 p.m., Dr. John Bezy, author of the book The Artistry and History of Mata Ortiz, will be making a presentation about the prehistoric roots of modern Mata Ortiz ceramics.
 
Children and their families can make a one-of-a-kind Mimbres style clay plate as a souvenir of the 2018 ClayFest. Participants will roll, shape and decorate a clay vessel. Taking place in the Museum's Education Room, 312 West Broadway, this education program is completely free to all. A suggested $5 donation will help to support the museum's education programs, collection care and schedule of changing exhibitions.
