Silver City, NM — CLAY featured workshop artist Julia Galloway will speak at Western New Mexico's State University's Parotti Hall Monday, July 16, at 6 p.m. Her lecture, titled "Contemporary Pottery Today," will examine the role pottery plays in our everyday lives and how the art has evolved. Galloway is a utilitarian potter and Professor of Art at the University of Montana, Missoula. Her workshop, which began July 9, focuses on pouring pots.

An exhibition of Galloway's work will be showcased during an opening reception Wednesday, July 18 at Bear Mountain Lodge's Blue Dome Gallery from 5-8 p.m.

Galloway has exhibited widely across the United States, Canada, and Asia, and her work is in major museums and private collections. Her work has been published in Ceramics Monthly, Studio Potter, Art and Perception, and Clay Time, as well as in 15 books. Julia has served on the boards of Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, the Archie Bray Foundation for the Ceramic Arts, the National Council of the Ceramic Arts as well as Critical Ceramics.
