taste of downtown logo rsTake a bite out of downtown Silver City on Labor Day weekend, as chefs serve up their culinary delights for the 18th annual Taste of Downtown!  Walk around downtown on Saturday, September 1 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and get delicious tastes from seventeen eateries. Restaurants, eateries, and coffee houses are offering sweet and savory tastes for only $20 a ticket.

The event was planned in collaboration with the Love Local Celebration and the Rolling Stones Gem and Mineral Show.  Love Local is a promotion of downtown Silver City and thirty businesses are offering deals, discounts, and free drawings on Saturday, September 1. "Healthy downtowns are essential for healthy communities, states Patrick Hoskins, Silver City MainStreet board president. There are 145 businesses downtown that are independent and locally owned. That is a big tax base and a huge asset for our community. We want to encourage more residents and visitors to come downtown and see what a great place it is to shop and live." There will also be a downtown gallery walk from 3 pm to 6 pm during the Love Local Celebration.

"The Rolling Stones Gem and Mineral Show is also happening Labor Day weekend at the Grant County Convention Center and goes on for three days, so there is plenty of time to do the downtown events and see the Gem and Mineral Show. It's a great weekend to come to Silver City with so much to do."

"Funds raised by this event go to support Silver City MainStreet activities that include beautification projects and programs and projects that encourage residents and tourists to visit downtown Silver City.  MainStreet recently launched Stories from our Streets, a downtown walking tour and we are working on having more downtown holiday decorations and a fabulous Christmas parade."

Tickets for the Taste of Downtown can be purchased online at www.silvercitymainstreet.com, or at The Place on the corner of Broadway and Bullard and at the Murray Ryan Visitor Center on Hudson Street. Tickets will be available the day of the event at The Hub on Bullard Street in downtown Silver City. Tickets are $20 each.

The mission of Silver City MainStreet is "To encourage a vibrant, historic downtown Silver City which is recognized as the heart of our diverse community." Please visit our website, www.silvercitymainstreet.com to learn more.
