Do you hear conversations about the lack of services, not enough resources, and not enough to do in Grant County? Here is a chance for the community to learn about what resources the area does have. How much do you know about ALL the different programs, services, and resources that ARE available right here in Grant County? That is why the Red Hot Children’s Fiesta (RHCF) is in its 17th year. The overall purpose of the Red Hot Children’s Fiesta is to provide a “one-stop-shop” for community members to learn about what resources, programs, and activities are available to support families and youth throughout the County. There are so many organizations that provide a huge variety of services or programs and this event brings them together! The goal of RHCF is to help close the gap between what is available and community awareness.
Come out to the 17th Annual Red Hot Children’s Fiesta on Saturday, September 8 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Penny Park, 1305 N Grant St. in Silver City. Sponsored by the Grant County Community Health Council, Hidalgo Medical Services, FORWARD NM of Southwest Center for Health Innovations, Imagination Library of Grant County, and Healthy Kids Healthy Communities.
The theme is “Healthy Foundations-It Starts at Home.” This year, the event will highlight the many ways in which families can create a nurturing environment for all family members at home. Learn about the many ways families can spend time together with no or low cost activities. Meet WNMU student athletes, enjoy food from Duck Stop food truck, music by DJ Big K, and enjoy live demos from Conservatory of Dance, Oni Ken Karate, and award winning WNMU Mariachi Plata. Come to see what else you might miss.
More than 40 activities and games and tons of fun for the whole family will fill the park! Organizations and programs from all over Grant County will have information about their services. Plus, the Blue Cross Blue Shield-Care Van will offer services. This mobile clinic travels to rural areas around the state and works with community partners to provide a variety of medical screenings and services. Thanks to our local Walgreens who is partnering to provide flu shots for ages 7 and older and pneumonia shots for ages 65 and older.
The Red Hot Children’s Fiesta is the largest children’s resource fair in southwestern New Mexico. The Fiesta began 17 years ago with LifeQuest. Early Intervention looking for a way to locate children in need of developmental services. The Fiesta soon morphed into a community child development fair and grew too large for one agency to effectively coordinate.
This event provides a great example of how our community comes together with shared purpose. Please come and enjoy the playfulness of the day and learn what is available for the children and families in Grant County.
Please no dogs in the park during the Fiesta, as small children will be in attendance. Also, be aware that the portion of Grant St. in front of Penny Park will be closed off for the safety of attendees.
