Hatchery 80th Anniversary highlights Glenwood events for October 2018

The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish and the community of Glenwood, are hosting an 80th Anniversary Celebration and free* Fall Fishing and Outdoor Education Fiesta for the Glenwood Fish Hatchery.

Activities include: Free fishing for 17 years and younger (*Fishing license required for anglers 18 years and older), Off-highway vehicle safety training, Archery and atlatl ranges, Spin-casting games, Wildlife skins & skulls, Hatchery history and tours and Bird-watching walks plus door prizes, hot dogs and cold drinks.

Presentations will be by Southwest NM Audubon Society, Cosmic Campground, Gila Native Plant Society, USFS Glenwood Ranger District, Whitewater Mesa Labyrinths, and more!
It all happens from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Glenwood Fish Hatchery, 9 White Water Road in Glenwood.

Cosmic Campground Weekend is set for Oct. 5-7. Bring a friend, a red filtered flashlight, shade, lawn chair, and telescope and binoculars if you have them. Enjoy the wonders of the night sky. Enchilada Dinner
Glenwood Senior Center’s upcoming fundraiser is an Enchilada Dinner Friday, Oct. 12 at 4 p.m. at the Center, 5108 Highway 180, Glenwood. The $10 cost includes enchiladas, beans, dessert and a drink. The event is timed to offer a Friday dinner for residents and those coming to Glenwood for the Fish Hatchery Anniversary event set for Saturday Oct. 13. For more information, call 539-2522.

Movie Night at Glenwood Community Library will be held on Friday Oct. 12. With Halloween on the horizon, this month’s Movie Night film is “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.” Set in an alternate England of the early 1800s, the five highly trained Bennett sisters are tasked with protecting themselves from a growing zombie threat, finding suitable husbands and saving the country. The basic storyline is the same and the beloved characters are still there – but with an edge. Showtime is 7 p.m. at the library, 14 Menges Lane, Glenwood, New Mexico 88039.

Photo by David ThornburgTrunk or Treat, a relatively new Glenwood tradition, is set for 5 p.m. Saturday Oct. 27 at Los Olmos Lodge, at the intersection of Highway 180 and Catwalk Road. Last year’s event was a huge success with youngsters wearing their colorful costumes and collecting treats from vehicles decorated for the Halloween season. Area residents went all out with the decorations to give the kids a safe way to go Trick or Treating. A dinner will be available at 6 p.m. Even if you don’t have children – just watching this event is a fun way to spend your time. For more information, call 575-539-2224.
