Join the Grant County Archaeology Society and the Imogen F. Wilson Education Foundation (501c3) volunteers for a celebration of the archaeology and history of the Mimbres Valley on October 20 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Kick off the morning with cowboy coffee and a biscuit. Then tour the site at 10 am. Lectures and activities follow every hour.
11 a.m., hear about “The Brannins- Early Homesteaders on the Sapillo.”
NOON, learn about “Apaches in the Mimbres and Black Range.” Hear the story of Santiago McKinn and learn of local battle sites.
1 p.m., watch the re-enactment of the Gooch Murder
2 p.m., Lecture on the “Mimbres Peoples and their Pottery”
Children’s activities include corn grinding, yucca processing, bullroarers, old fashioned games and pottery making.
There will be a raffle for a load of firewood, and a drawing.
