vocal trash photo for calendarOn Thursday, January 24, the Grant County Community Concert Association hosts a unique and highly entertaining group—Vocal Trash—performing at 7 p.m. at the WNMU Fine Arts Theater. Best described as "entertainment with a conscience,” Vocal Trash is an urban-themed, Broadway style production that reconnects us with our planet and its meaningful experience unlike any other. Toolbox guitars, a milk-urn bass and numerous repurposed industrial percussion props accompany singing, breakdancing, and comedy.

The group will offer an Educational Outreach program for grades 1 through 6 on the morning of the scheduled evening concert from 10:30 to 11:30 in the WNMU Fine Arts Theater. It is free of charge to the children, and bus transportation will be paid by GCCCA upon request by the  school. For more information, call Karen at 575-538-5862. The concert and Educational Outreach Program are supported in part by New Mexico Arts, a division of the Department of Cultural Affairs, and by the National Endowment for the Arts, WESTAF, and Albertsons, Safeway and Vons—Southwest Division Foundation. As part of our outreach for this concert we are partnering with the Silver City Public’s Library’s children’s programs, Little Artists Club and WildWorks Program. Participants will use recycled material to create art sculptures that will be used to decorate the lobby. Children who create the best sculptures will be given two complimentary tickets so they can bring their parents to the evening concert. For more information, call the Library at 575-538-3672 or email ref@silvercitymail.com. Association president Karen Beckenbach said, “Vocal Trash is really different from the typical music we bring to town. We chose them for what they bring to the Educational Outreach Program for children, a message of peace, love, recycling and anti-bulling. The Educational Outreach Programs we provide are an important part of what our organization does for the community, and Vocal Trash’s message is powerful and important for people of all ages.”

Concert-goers will delight in this amazing group who spread their message about recycling to make a cleaner, healthier planet for future generations through the universal language of song and dance. They are the world-wide, top requested goodwill ambassadors for the U.S. State Department. Come and see for yourself!

Tickets for this concert are $20 for adults who are not season ticket holders. Children to age 17 who are accompanied by a ticket holder are admitted free of charge. WNMU students with a valid student ID are also admitted free of charge. Season tickets and individual concert tickets can be purchased online at www.gcconcerts.org or in Silver City at The Pink Store (Bullard), the MRAC Office (Wells Fargo Bank Bldg.), or in the lobby at the time of the concert. Further information and/or season subscription forms can be obtained by calling (575)538-5862.
