The Mimbres Region Arts Council, with premier sponsor Cissy McAndrew/United County Mimbres Realty, is pleased to bring another great performance in the 2011-2012 Folk Series with The Milk Carton Kids on March 30, 2012, 7:30 p.m. at the Buckhorn Opera House in the scenic mountain town of Pinos Altos - 10 short minutes outside of Silver City.

"The young, wise and sincere Los Angeles, California duo dish out Appalachian folk-tinged Americana with harmonizing, classical guitars on their first proper studio recording." - AOL Spinner

Having just hit the folk music scene in 2011, The Milk Carton Kids have made astonishing progress as a duo with the release of two critically-acclaimed albums in the last year. Their first, Retrospect, is a live recording of a performance in Ventura, California, near their hometown of Los Angeles. The duo released the album as “Kenneth Pattengale & Joey Ryan,” their real names, before they created their stage name, The Milk Carton Kids.

"Their harmonies are simple yet gorgeous. Their two voices combine effortlessly as one and the songs are intimate and engaging. And the more you listen to [Prologue], the more powerful the songs become."
 - Bruce Warren, WXPN

They released Prologue, their first studio-recorded album, in July of 2011, and headlined their first North American tour with it. The album has received an ample amount of praise from music critics, and has garnered them an abundance of new tour dates in renowned cities. Their song, “There By Your Side,” was named National Public Radio's Song of the Day, and the San Francisco Chronicle has dubbed Prologue “bittersweet and beautiful.”

"In short, it's excellent music... and you should make a point of listening to it immediately." - No Depression

The Milk Carton Kids certainly do make it easy for you to make a point of hearing what they have to offer: both of their albums are available for free download on their website (themilkcartonkids.com). By the end of the year 2011, fans had downloaded each of their albums over 60,000 times for free. They are set to perform for the second time at the well-respected music festival South by Southwest in Austin, Texas, a week and half before they grace us with their presence in Silver City.

"The duo...blended their sibling-like harmonies seamlessly… But rather than being just a vehicle for hot fretwork, these guys are all about the songs… and bittersweet highlights that received delighted yells and applause from the crowd, which stood in sweaty silence throughout the duo's 65-minute set." - Salt Lake Magazine

Additional sponsors include the Holiday Inn Express Silver City and Silver City Radio.
