Silver City Community Theatre (SCCT) will be very active in July, August, and September, according to MaryAnn Marlar, SCCT Board Member.

“In the July workshop, Play-writing for Everyone!,  facilitated by Silver City playwright Brenda McFarlane, participants will learn the basics of writing a 10-minute play. The workshop will take place, July 20, 10 to 1 pm, at the Historic Elks Clubhouse, 315 N. Texas St, downtown Silver City. The workshop is free for SCCT members, $20 for non-members. Advance registration is not necessary; just come on July 20th and register between 9:30 and 10 am,” according to Thomas Leeper, SCCT President. “In September, an ensemble of SCCT actors will present An Evening of 10-minute Plays.” Leeper said, “We’re really looking forward to presenting works by local playwrights. Everyone is encouraged to submit a 10-minute play not just participants in Play-writing For Everyone!, the July 20th workshop.”

“July 27 there’ll be auditions for an August 10 production: Shakespeare in the Park. The auditions will be from 10:30 to 12 noon on July 27 at the Silver City Public Library, 515 W College Ave. Those interested in auditioning should have a sonnet prepared beforehand. Participants can choose to prepare one of the following sonnets: 18, 29, 30, 55, 73, 116, 129,130, 139. Coming with a sonnet rehearsed is highly encouraged but not required to audition. Shakespeare in the Park a free public event, will take place in Gough Park, 4 to 6 pm on August 10. Four readers will present 16 of Shakespeare’s sonnets. Together they tell a story of friendship, lust and betrayal,” according to director, Frost McGahey. Sonnets can be found at the following link: https://www.sparknotes.com/shakespeare/shakesonnets/

“Frost will have refreshments at the auditions and, in a unique donation to SCCT, she will pay performers selected $50 each,” according to Marlar. ”More information about  these events will be posted at www.silvercitytheater.com and on Facebook and Instagram.”

Be the community in Community Theater—join SCCT! Individual and family memberships receive tickets and admission to opening night parties and workshops. Additionally, sponsorships are recognized in programs and other publications, according to Leeper.

A home-grown theater company, SCCT grew out of a series of acting classes presented by The Western Institute for Lifelong Learning (WILL). Several class members joined forces to create the Silver City Community Theater. Now after 5 years and many productions, SCCT’s mission continues: to enrich, educate and entertain the Silver City and Grant County communities by providing a broad range of live theater experiences on a recurring, seasonal basis.

SCCT is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
