MATA ORTIZ POTTERY LECTURE, DEMONSTRATION & SALE

Master artist Oralia López from Mata Ortiz, Chihuahua, will be in the Education Room demonstrating the intricate technique used to paint pottery including elegant forms, precision designs and beautiful colors. Oralia will have a wonderful selection of work by many other fine Mata Ortiz artists for purchase at reasonable prices starting at $20.At 11:00 am, and 1:00 pm, Dr. John Bezy, author of numerous publications about the human and natural history of the Southwest and northern Mexico, will be making a presentation about the prehistoric roots of modern Mata Ortiz ceramics in the museum parlor.

FAMILY FUN: MIMBRES POTTERY WORKSHOP

Saturday, July 20, 1:30 - 3:30 pm
Silver City Museum, 312 W. Broadway

Children and families are invited to make their own one-of-a-kind Mimbres-style clay plate as souvenir. Guided by staff, participants will roll, shape and decorate a clay vessel like the ancient pot currently on display in the Besse Forward Gallery. Participants will learn about the pottery history, techniques and designs used by the prehistoric inhabitants of southwest New Mexico.Event takes place in the Museum Kitchen.
