Genre-Go-Round: Mysteries, Science Fiction, Romance panel

Southwest writers, readers, artists, and book enthusiasts will come together for the biennial The Southwest Word Fiesta will be held in Silver City on October 27-29, 2023.
Among several events, author Kris Neri will be moderating the Genre-Go-Round: Mysteries, Science Fiction, Romance panel. The Genre-Go-Round panel will take place on Saturday, October 28, from 11:30-12:30 pm MDT at the WNMU Global Resource Center in Room A.
Marty Eberhardt will discuss the mystery genre. She is a retired botanical garden executive director who has written two award-winning books in the Bea Rivers botanical garden mystery series: Death in a Desert Garden (2021), and Bones in the Back Forty (2023). Marty and her husband divide their time between Tucson and Silver City, enjoying the wild areas and wild characters of both.

Silver City Día de Los Muertos is a time for families and communities to come together to celebrate life, remember the departed, and embrace rich cultural traditions from Mexico, Aztecs and Catholicism.
The Festival will take place in the Silver City Museum Courtyard with Food Vendors, Artisans and Musicians.
Face Painters will be available from 12:00-3:00 in preparation for Día de Los Muertos Parade. More details on Silver City Día de Los Muertos Facebook page and Silver City Museum Facebook page.

"The Lost Ones: Recovered Memory and Creative Storytelling"
This presentation will focus on the author's decades-long journey to uncover stories that have been lost, omitted, or erased from popular American narratives. Centered on his previous award winning books, Mañana Means Heaven, All They Will Call You, and most recently, Some of the Light, the author will speak about the process of story-gathering, and turning research into creative narrative, utilizing a wide range of tools from multiple genres.

New Mexico Poetry Anthology 2023

A reading and book signing featuring local poets will take place at SWAG Books & More on Saturday, September 30 from 1-3 p.m. Please see attached PDF for participants. The event coincides with the publication of NEW MEXICO POETRY ANTHOLOGY 2023 edited by Levi Romero and Michelle Otero, published by the Museum of New Mexico Press in association with New Mexico State Libraries’ Poetry Center (all situated under the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs). The community anthology features over 200 New Mexico poets from all over the state. The voices included celebrated poets along with previously unpublished poets and other writers from all backgrounds. The editors who selected the poems are the Inaugural New Mexico Poet Levi Romero and Michelle Otero, former Poet Laureate of Albuquerque (originally from Deming).

Annual Pumpkin Patch to take place at Old Hurley Store Oct. 14, 2023

The annual Pumpkin Patch hosted in Hurley at the Old Hurley Store will take place on Saturday, Oct. 14, 2023, from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. The price of admission to pick out a pumpkin is three cans of food. All proceeds go directly to the Silver City Gospel Mission.
In addition to taking home a pumpkin, kids will have the option to play games, and perhaps take part in a hay ride. The host of this event said she doesn't know what the gentleman from Deming will bring to entertain the kids and adults. So it will be a surprise to all comers.
6th Annual Silver City Buddy Walk - September 23, 2023

The 6th Annual Silver City Buddy Walk will be held at Gough Park this Saturday September 23. Registration for this free event will be from 10:00 AM to 2 PM The actual walk will be at NOON. Show up to cheer on individuals with Down syndrome. They will have contests, music, dancing, prizes, food vendors, and resources.

The Knights of Columbus will host a Car Show and corn hole tournament at the park as well.
