Says she has the Expertise, Energy, and Experience 

Town Councilor Lynda Aiman-Smith is running for re-election to the Silver City Town Council. Lynda was elected to the Town Council in 2014, then re-elected in 2016, and is seeking another term. Lynda will continue her efforts in local economic development: supporting local businesses, conservation of natural resources, developing an appealing cycling and pedestrian community, and working with town staff on being fiscally prudent when providing local services.

"Turmoil in the national and state economic and political environment means we really have to work on being diligent and innovative in our leadership to ensure that Silver City continues to provide vital services to its residents in a cost-effective way," says Lynda, a New Mexico native, "With my professional background, and having served on the Council, I bring the expertise, energy, and experience needed. I ask for your vote so that I may continue serving the community that I love." Lynda has owned small businesses; was a manager in Silicon Valley; and having her Ph.D. in Management, was a tenured faculty member at a major university.

Lynda regularly notes that it is only through working with a variety of individuals and groups that projects get accomplished, and she has proven her ability to work across a variety of interests. Some of her examples: collaborating with town staff to streamline business license and registration processes, which has made it easier to start businesses in Silver City. She cites joining forces with a range of professionals to rework an ordinance to change the Local Economic Development Act, thereby helping the expansion of Little Toad Creek Brewery and Distillery in historic downtown. Lynda worked with a stakeholder group to develop and complete the town's Master Bicycle plan, and two priority projects identified in the plan have been funded.

Before running for office, Lynda was part of the ad hoc task-group working on the Town's Water Conservation Plan. As Councilor, water conservation remained a high priority. Implementing the Water Conservation plan has dramatically decreased Town water use, giving us a longer water-resource horizon. Lynda has been active working with the Town Manager and others to use innovative storm water management practices by using plants, rocks and soil to improve drainage, limit soil erosion and reduce flooding. Working with other community members, there are now more water-harvesting basins in town.

Lynda is visibly active in volunteering for local nonprofits such as MainStreet; the Silver City Woman's Club; the Public Library; and Gila Mimbres Community Radio. Her "Conversations" meetings were important venues for community discussion.

Lynda Aiman-Smith says she is an active listener, and always responds to constituent requests. "I love this Town, I have worked hard on Silver City's behalf, and I humbly ask for your continued support."
