Greetings Grant County
I am writing to state my intent of running for Grant County Sheriff and share my qualifications and experience for this position.

I would like to create the following: Establish a citizens' review committee, Special Response Team, Crash Team, Crisis Intervention Team, expand our DARE Program, and develop a Task Force composed of Narcotic Deputies and Officers combating the drug problem we have in our county.

Biography:
Frank Gomez is a lifelong resident of Grant County, who graduated from Silver High School in 1984. At a young age Frank Gomez had an interest in Law Enforcement which followed him into High School. While in high school, Mr. Gomez was part of the Explorers Program that was sponsored through Grant County Sheriff’s Department. To be accepted to the program he went through a screening process, which was based on reputation, personality, and having an excellent scholastic record. During that time Mr. Gomez was chosen to speak to students in general health classes about drugs and the effects they have on the mind and body.

After graduation, Mr. Gomez enrolled in the Law Enforcement Academy at Western New Mexico University. After a brief time at WNMU, Mr. Gomez decided to join the United States Army. Mr. Gomez served in the Demilitarized Zone in South Korea, Panama and was also a trainer at the National Training Center in Ft. Irwin, CA. specializing on the Soviet Doctrine. After his time in service and being Honorably Discharged, Mr. Gomez returned to Grant County.

Upon returning home Mr. Gomez went to work at Phelps Dodge, Chino Mine Smelter. After nine years of working at the mine, the Chino Smelter was shut down and he was laid off. To Mr. Gomez this was a blessing in disguise as he was able to fulfill his goal of becoming a Law Enforcement Officer and to serve the public as he had always intended. Mr. Gomez was given his first opportunity with the Bayard Police Department, where he served as a Patrolman/School Resource Officer. Mr. Gomez received his Law Enforcement Certification from the New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He was also a Volunteer Firefighter/EMT for the Bayard Fire Department during his employment.

During his tenure at the Bayard Police Department Mr. Gomez received many phone calls and encouragement from his fellow officers about joining the Grant County Sheriff’s Department or Silver City Police Department. Having a young family to support and seeking better opportunities, Mr. Gomez went to work for the Grant County Sheriff’s Department. He has served as a Deputy, Senior Deputy, Corporal, and currently holds the position of Patrol Sergeant. He has also served on the Special Response Team (SRT) for four years.

Mr. Gomez is currently the coordinator/instructor of the DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program. Mr. Gomez feels that the DARE Program is very instrumental, especially in these times where there is a drug epidemic in the nation. “If we can get through to one child, then we are doing our job. It is very rewarding to see the students faces light up when they see me in town. My hope is that they remember what I have tried to instill in them as their instructor.”

Mr. Gomez is currently serving on the Cobre Consolidated School Board of Education, where he has served for the past 9 years. He has been involved in coaching area youth in basketball, football, and Little League. He continues to serve his community by dedicating his time and service. Frank Gomez has strong values and believes in presenting himself in the highest standard.

Being an employee of the Sheriff’s Department, Mr. Gomez knows and understands the challenges that he will face if elected as Sheriff. Mr. Gomez strongly believes if one wants an excellent department, it is imperative to lead by example, be consistent, and fair. Frank Gomez believes in Integrity, Honor, and Duty.

Frank Gomez is a family man. He is married to Yvonne Medina Gomez, has five children and three grandchildren.
