eddie floresEddie M. Flores has announced his candidacy as a Republican for Grant County Commissioner, District 4.

Flores is a lifelong resident of Grant County and attended Silver schools. After graduation Flores attended the Western New Mexico University police academy in 1985 and after completing the academy started his law enforcement career with the Silver City Police department. In 1990 Flores was accepted into the 49th New Mexico State Police academy in Santa Fe, NM. After graduation from the State police academy Flores was assigned to Datil, NM for one year before being transferred to Silver City. During his tenure with the State Police Flores was an Emergency Response Officer for hazardous materials and served as a member and later the Commander for the New Mexico State Police Honor Guard.

Flores rose through the ranks and was appointed Captain/District Commander for District 12 in 2006 and retired from the State Police in 2008.

After retiring from the State Police in 2008 he was named Chief of Police at Western New Mexico University police department where he is still currently serving.

Flores is a graduate from the esteemed Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command Class #196. He earned his bachelor's degree from WNMU in 2008 and then earned his master's in business administration from WNMU in 2015. Flores is a member of the Alpha Sigma Phi and Delta Mu Delta honor society.

Flores has served as member and Chair for the Luna and Grant County DWI councils. He has served on the Grant County Teen Court board, has served and coached baseball and softball for the Silver City Little League board. He has also coached baseball for the Copper Little League. Flores has served two separate terms for the Silver Consolidated school board in 2006 and 2017. Flores has served on the NM State HIDTA Executive board and currently serves on the District 7 regional board where has served as Chair. Flores also served on the New Mexico State Police Association board. While serving on the Silver School board during his two separate terms he has been a member, Secretary, Vice President and President.

Flores was appointed to the Governor's Organized Crime Commission in May of 2023 by Governor Grisham. Flores was recently confirmed as a commissioner in this year's Legislative session by the New Mexico Senate.

As a Grant County Commissioner, Flores wants to address the needs for improved Public Safety especially for the rural areas within Grant County. During his latest tenure with the Silver School board Flores was instrumental in having security guards at each school and later arming each guard. Flores also brought improved safety and security infrastructure to the school district along with the implementation of the Threat Assessment and Crisis Intervention teams and emergency alert systems.

Flores wants to address the continued need for quality patient care at Gila Regional Medical Center. Flores also hopes to continue to foster and maintain the relationship between Freeport- McMoran and Grant County.
Flores supports ranching and mining and wants to use his experience serving on different boards and his experience in Public Safety to improve the quality of life for all Grant Countians.

Flores is married to Emmarie Chavez, and they have 6 children and 12 grandchildren.

Flores will always be available to his constituents and to those residents that do not reside in his District for any concerns they may have regarding Grant County.
