3032 IMG_4862 Weekend at the Galleries --  a celebration of art and artists has been a Silver City tradition for 15 years. This year's activities will take place on October 7-10, 2011, Columbus Day weekend.

Silver City artists and galleries collaborate on this event all year long. Together they make plans to exhibit their latest works of art to an audience of local friends and visiting tourists. All are welcome. Gallery Art Walks will be held Saturday from 11 am to 8 pm and Sunday from 10 am to 4 pm. On Saturday evening, galleries will host Evening at the Galleries, a gala event of opening receptions. Enjoy meandering up the streets of Silver City while searching for the perfect piece of art.

Sponsored by the Mimbres Region Arts Council and premier business sponsor First New Mexico Bank of Silver City, the Weekend at the Galleries events begins with a kick-off reception and special art sale at the Seedboat Center for the Arts. This year, the art sale is themed “When Pigs Fly.” We expect that the pieces may be realistic, fun, or just plain fanciful. All sale items are the work of local artists and will be priced at $200.00 or less for the evening. Proceeds benefit Mimbres Region Arts Council programs.

The kick-off reception will include a wine and beer tasting and appetizers at the Seedboat Center for the Arts from 5-8 pm on Friday, October 7. Tickets are $12. (Attendees must be at least 21 years of age.) Tickets to this event are limited due to space. Tickets to the event can be purchased online at the MRAC website or by stopping by or calling the office.
