Work began at 8 a.m. this morning Saturday, October 1st, to construct the first of two 10x10 communal dog houses, which will each comfortably house 10 dogs.

Seen in these pics are Kevin Rodriguez, vice president of Puppy Dog Ranch, along with Dale Rucklos, Bob and John, all volunteers donating their time and talents to help Puppy Dog Ranch's 34 dogs be comfortable this winter.

Puppy Dog Ranch is in dire need of adequate housing. Laurie West, founder and president of Puppy Dog Ranch says, “We have had to turn away 24 dogs and 2 litters of puppies in the past two weeks due to our lack of housing, materials and funding to build housing. Currently, we do not have enough housing for the 34 dogs we are caring for and have had to resort to buying outdoor chain link dog runs at a cost of $300 each. Suitable, insulated housing would help all our dogs live more comfortably this winter.” Rodriguez adds, “In addition to the need for long term housing, if we don't have a temporary dog run or a foster home available to take in an abandoned or owner-relinquished dog, we have to turn it away.” The prognosis is grim: The dogs will eventually end up at a “kill shelter”, dumped in the Gila, abandoned on a highway, given way in a store parking lot, or given to a less than desirable “good home”.

Volunteers with building or carpentry experience/knowledge are needed at 8 am Saturday, Sunday and Monday, as well as dog walkers and caregivers throughout each day. If you don't have the time, donations of building materials, 6' chainlink fencing and pea gravel are needed, or please consider becoming a guardian angel and sponsoring one of their permanent residents or ill puppies for as little as $30 per month. Every single penny goes toward the care of these dogs. West, Rodriguez, and all volunteers are not compensated for their time.

Puppy Dog Ranch Rescue and Sanctuary, a 501(c)3 nonprofit public charity is run by unpaid volunteers and funded entirely by donations and small grants.
