Pinos Altos, in addition to being the site for the annual October Fiesta, was also the finish line for the Gila Monster Challenge, also known as the Desert Springs Physical Therapy Fun Ride. Desert Springs Physical Therapy was the main sponsor of the event, which was a fundraiser for the Tour of the Gila and the Silver City Rotary Club.

Races included distances of 106, 72, 52 and 32 miles. It was reported by one finisher that 58 entrants rode the 32-mile category.

Bicyclists continued to flow into the small town. A few of their photos can be seen on the Photo Essay page.
