Once again Grant County 4-H has done very well at the annual District Contest. Novice and Junior age division members competed against other 4-H members in the southwest region at the District competition held in Socorro, NM. Members must qualify through an elimination county contest where only the best in each contest move on to district. In order to compete in all 4-H activities members must maintain good standing within their individual clubs by attending meetings, completing community service and giving demonstrations or illustrated talks in their clubs.

Several members from Grant County competed in the District competition. Lizzy McDonald got first place individual in Consumer Decision Making. Aliza Orcutt placed second in Favorite Foods. Koda Fell, Ally Massengill, Allie Miller and Aliza Orcutt placed second as a team in the Welcome to NM 4-H Bowl. In Fashion Revue Addison Drennan placed fourth. Carson Billings placed first as an individual in the Wildlife contest. In the Junior Impromptu Speech contest Madison Miller placed third while Samantha Jones placed fourth. The Novice Impromptu Speech contest Allie Miller was first place individual. Giving an excellent Agriculture Presentation was Madison Miller receiving fourth.

The Junior Livestock Judging Team won first place consisting of Malachi Drennan, Clayton Peterson and Ketch Bays. Malachi Drennan was high point individual for the contest followed by Clayton Peterson as fifth high.
In the Rifle competition the novice team came in first place. Members of the team were Aiden Gutierrez, Colter Massengill, Morgan Wendt and Koda Fell. Aiden Gutierrez was the high point individual of the contest and Colter Massengill came in as fifth high. In the junior Rifle contest Samantha Jones, Brandon Ortiz, Xander O’Loughlin and Malachi Drennan came in fourth as a team.

In Archery the novice team of Breck Baptiste, Sarah Gardner, Jeremy Younger and Aiden Gutierrez placed second. Reno Hughes, Colter and Ally Massengill also placed 4th as a team in the novice archery division.
Breck Baptiste was the high point individual for the contest. The junior age division team won the competition with Samantha Jones, Josh Agnew, Mason Lockett and Caitlin Brabson on team one. Team two made up of Xander O’Loughlin, Monte Valenzuela, Madison Miller and Malachi Drennan placed third. Samantha Jones was second-high point individual in the contest followed by Josh Agnew in third and Mason Lockett in fifth.
